The Ocean Project facilitates public action for a healthy ocean by working globally with diverse organizations to protect the ocean and its vital species.
Initial grants allowed The Ocean Project to lead an unprecedented national public opinion survey on oceans and the environment. The study revealed a nationwide lack of understanding about the ocean. The Ocean Project assessment was corroborated by the Pew Oceans Commission, the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy, and continuing research.
The Ocean Project built a global network of over 2,000 organizations working to protect the oceans. Director Bill Mott led The Ocean Project in supporting the U.N launch of World Ocean Day, further engaging people globally. For the past decade, The Ocean Project has adopted a strategic approach to focus on youth engagement, leadership, and advocacy in protecting the ocean and its vital resources for future generations.
Dr. Boyle is also co-founder of the World Ocean Network which engages organizations in the global promotion of World Ocean Day.
